It never ceases to amaze me that our culture makes so many simple foods so dang complicated by adding all kinds of chemicals and crap. Boxed mac and cheese with artificial flavors and colors? It’s just as easy to boil some noodles, shred some cheese and make homemade mac and cheese. Taco seasoning with MSG? My goodness, just whip up a batch using spices you have at home. It’s simple and it tastes a whole lot better.
This is no different for artificially butter-flavored syrup. I’m not going to lie, I used to buy the big tub of fake butter-flavored syrup that you can microwave all the time. I absolutely LOVED the buttery taste of it because let’s face it, who doesn’t love the taste of butter and how butter makes food taste? I didn’t however, like the idea of how “fattening” butter was so I opted for the artificial stuff.
Quite humorous now that I think about it. I was desperately wanting the flavor of butter but was too scared of the natural substance yet I thought eating an artificially flavored butter syrup was way better.
*shakes head* Oh well, ya live and ya learn, right?
So, in honor of butter and all things real, I’m sharing a quick video on how to make homemade butter-flavored syrup! Oh and if you need a good homemade waffle recipe, you’ll definitely want to try this one (make a double batch and freeze it for a quick future breakfast).
